Our research program addresses many facets of agroecosystems. Our focus includes rural and urban systems, production and conservation, and farm assessment and design. Ultimately we are interested in the future of both managed ecosystems and food production.

Our most recent work has been focused on the Healthy Farm Index. The index is a tool that integrates ecological, economic, and social parameters to assess how land-use and land-cover patterns influence biodiversity, production, and other ecosystem services.
